LED lighting upgrades at M11 junction 8 and A120 fast link exit slip

We're upgrading the lights at M11 junction 8 and on the A120 exit slip to more energy-efficient LED lights to help reduce carbon emissions.

LEDs are much better for the environment, use less energy, and last longer, which means fewer road closures for repairs and safer roads overall.

The work will take about 11 weeks, starting from Monday 23 September to Friday 6 December 2024. We'll be working overnight from 9pm to 5am, Monday to Friday, depending on the weather.

    Closures

    • Lane closures on the M11 at junction 8 for the LED lighting upgrades.
    • The A120 fast link exit slip will be closed for 7 nights, from Thursday 7 November to Friday 15 November 2024.

    Diversions

A120 eastbound traffic will be diverted:

    • Exit the M11 onto Birchanger roundabout.
    • Continue eastbound on the A120 to Priory Wood Roundabout.
    • Continue your journey towards London Stansted Airport/Dunmow.

Please remember that closures can change at short notice. You can check the latest information on our  or find live travel information on our Traffic England site. Our travel alerts give details of live incidents on our network.

Updated September road closure dates for resurfacing work

We’ll be continuing our resurfacing work on the M11 between junctions 7a and 8. We had planned to complete this work by the beginning of August, but it wasn’t possible because of poor weather.

    Closures and diversions
To carry out the work safely, we will need to close the M11 and divert traffic as detailed below.

Whilst the M11 northbound is closed between junction 7a to 8 on Thursday 12 September to Sunday 15 September (four nights), drivers should follow the following diversion:

    • leave the M11 at junction 7a to be diverted via the A1025

Project information

Overview

Our work on M11 includes carrying out essential resurfacing, road marking and drainage renewal between junction 7 and junction 10. This will keep the road in a safe and serviceable condition.

Essex Highways are carrying out works to increase capacity and help meet future network demand on junction 8 of the M11, by widening the A120 signalised junction. These works are separate to the ones we are carrying out.

You can find more information about these works on the Essex County Council M11 junction 8 improvement scheme webpage. You can also contact Essex County Council via email at m11J8@essexhighways.org.
