A11 Thetford to Norwich LED lighting upgrade
As part of our effort to cut carbon emissions from road lighting, we’re upgrading street lighting on the A11 Wymondham bypass to LED lights.

Work starts 19 February 2024
We are starting work on replacing the street lights at the junctions of Tuttles Lane, Browick Road and Spooner Row Interchanges. We're changing the lights to LED ones which are more efficient and greener.
The work will take around six weeks, starting on Monday 19 February. We will be working overnight between 8pm and 6am, weather permitting.

To do the work safely, we will need to close sections of the A11, and divert traffic on the following dates:

Project information
Last year, while reconstructing the A11 between Spooner Row and Tuttles Interchange, we upgraded sections of street lighting to LEDs.
We're now continuing this work with the LED upgrade of streetlights on the A11 Wymondham bypass.
Future work
Later in the Spring, we'll be replacing sections road markings and road studs (cat’s eyes) on the A11 between Thetford and Spooner Row Interchange.
Once complete, drivers will benefit from a safer and smoother road.
LED lights are better for the environment:
- they use far less energy to produce the same amount of light as conventional lamps
- they last longer and require less maintenance, meaning fewer road closures for repairs.
Once the road markings and cat's eyes have been replaced, the road will be smoother and safer.
