We are resurfacing and replacing signs on the A11 between Babraham, where it joins the M11 and Six Mile Bottom, where it joins the A14.

Upcoming road closures in March 2024
Work began on Monday 6 March 2023 and is expected to be complete by Friday 22 March 2024.
Upcoming closures and diversions
Our final phase of work will take place between Thursday 14 and Friday 22 March. We’ll be working overnight between 8pm and 6am, as follows:
- A11 southbound closure between Fourwentways and Granta Park, on Thursday 14 and Friday 15 March.
- A11 northbound closure between Granta Park and Fourwentways (including the exit slip road from the A505), from Monday 18 to Friday 22 March.
Whist the A11 is closed, traffic will be diverted as follows:
- Southbound traffic will exit the A11 at Fourwentways Interchange onto the A1307 towards Haverhill, then turn right onto Newmarket Road towards Granta Park. Join the A505 westbound at Granta Park and then join the M11 southbound at junction 10 to continue south.
- Northbound traffic on the M11 wishing to continue onto the A11 will exit at Stump Cross and take the A1301 northbound, then join the A505 eastbound at Pampisford. Exit the A505 towards Granta Park then follow Newmarket Road northbound to the A1307 Fourwentways Interchange to join the A11.

Upcoming road closures in February 2024
Our next phase of work will take place on the A11 southbound between Six Mile Bottom and Balsham Road from Monday 5 February to Thursday 22 February. Work will be done on weeknights between 8pm and 6am.
To do the work safely, we need to close the A11 southbound, and traffic will be diverted via the A14 and M11 (using the strategic traffic diversion).
Strategic Diversion
Any traffic wishing to join the A11 southbound at Six Mile Bottom will be diverted. Traffic will follow Wilbraham Road and the A1303 to join the A14 westbound at junction 35 (Stow cum Quy), then follow the strategic traffic diversion.
A11 Entry slip diversion
The A11 northbound exit slip road at Six Mile Bottom will also be closed. Drivers will be directed to continue on the A11 / A14 Newmarket Bypass and exit onto the A1304 (High Street) through Newmarket to return to Six Mile Bottom.

Other planned work
We also plan to carry out maintenance and improvement work on the A14 between Cambridge and Newmarket.
This work will include resurfacing, replacement of road markings, signs and road studs between junction 35 (Stow Cum Quy) and junction 36 (Nine Mile Hill). This will ensure the A14 remains safe and serviceable for years to come.
The work will take around 6 months, starting on Monday 19 February 2024. We’ll be working mainly on weeknights with some weekends, between 8 pm and 5am or 6am, weather permitting.
The first phase will need road closures on the A14 eastbound, and will so not affect the diversion for when the A11 southbound is closed.

Latest road closure dates in November and December 2023
Our final phase of work will take place on the A11 southbound between Granta Park and Stumps Cross from Thursday 30 November 2023 to Wednesday 24 January 2024. Work will be carried out on weeknights between 8pm and 6am.
We will not be working between Thursday 21 December 2023 and Friday 5 January 2024 as our policy is not to have planned roadworks during the festive season.
Closures and diversions
To carry out the work safely, we need to close the A11 between Granta park and Stumps Cross, one direction at a time.
While the A11 is closed, traffic will be diverted to exit the A11 at the merge point with the A505, then take the A505 westbound to reach junction 10 of the M11, then follow the M11 southbound.
M11 junction 10 slip road resurfacing
Separate to the A11 work, we will also be carrying out resurfacing on the M11 junction 10 southbound exit slip road (leading to the A505 and Duxford Imperial War Museum).
To carry out this work safely, we will need to close the M11 overnight as follows:
- M11 southbound between junctions 11 (Trumpington) and 10 (Duxford), Tuesday 28 November, between 10pm and 5am.
- M11 junction 10 southbound exit slip road, from Wednesday 29 November to Friday 1 December, between 10pm and 5am.
During these closures, southbound traffic will be directed to exit the M11 at junction 11 (Trumpington), take the A10 southwest to Royston, then the A505 to rejoin the M11 at junction 10.

To do this work safely, we will need to have road closures.
Friday 6 October to Tuesday 14 November 2023 road closures
Our next phase of work will be on the A11 southbound between Six Mile Bottom and Balsham Road and will take place from Friday 6 October through to Tuesday 14 November 2023.
While the A11 is closed, traffic will be diverted via the A14 and M11 using our strategic diversion route.
Any traffic wishing to join the A11 southbound at Six Mile Bottom will be diverted to follow Wilbraham Road and take the A1303 to join the A14 westbound at junction 25 (Stow cum Quy), then follow the strategic diversion route.

Project information
We are resurfacing the A11 between Babraham, where it joins the M11 and Six Mile Bottom, where it joins the A14. We will also replace the central reservation safety barrier and signage.
Drivers will benefit from safer and smoother journeys as we resurface the A11 and replace road signage.
Drivers heading northbound will follow the M11 north and then the A14 east to rejoin the A11 near Newmarket.
There will be local diversion routes in place when the A11 is closed in different stages.
Local diversions
Monday 6 March to Tuesday 2 May - A11 southbound from Worsted Lodge to Fourwentways.
Drivers will exit the A11 at Fleam Dyke, taking Cambridge Road west to pass through Fulbourn and then turn left onto Limekin Road. Another left turn will return drivers east on the A1307 Babraham Road to rejoin the A11 at Fourwentways.
Tuesday 2 May to Friday 11 August - A11 northbound from Fourwentways to Six Mile Bottom
Drivers will exit the A11 at Fourwentways to head west towards Cambridge on the A1307 Babraham Road. They will turn right to head north on Limekin Road and then right again to return east on Cambridge Road to pass through Fulbourn and rejoin the A11 northbound at Fleam Dyke.
Friday 11 August to Wednesday 11 October - A11 northbound from Six Mile Bottom to Nine Mile Hill
Drivers will exit the A11 at Six Mile Bottom, taking the A1304 towards Newmarket. They will turn left at the roundabout to head west on the A1303, then join the A14 eastbound at junction 35 (Stow cum Quy) to resume their journey north on the A14/A11.
Wednesday 11 October to Thursday 23 November - A11 southbound from Six Mile Bottom to Balsham Road
Drivers will follow the strategic diversion.
Thursday 23 November to Friday 2 February 2024 - A11 southbound from Granta Park to Stumps Cross
During the first week of work, drivers heading southbound will exit onto the A1307 at Fourwentways, then turn off towards the services to take Newmarket Road south running parallel to the A11, then at Granta Park either go straight over the roundabout to return to the A11 south or turn right onto the A505 to join the M11 at junction 10.
During the rest of this phase drivers will exit the A11 southbound onto the A505 westbound, following it to Duxford to join the M11 at junction 10 and continue south.
