A1 southbound Stamford to Wansford maintenance
We’ll be carrying out essential improvement work on the southbound dual carriageway of the A1 between Stamford and Wansford near Peterborough.

Work starts in January 2024
We will be resurfacing, replacing all road markings and road studs (cat's eyes), and installing new road signs.
We plan to do this maintenance work over approximately 14 weeks between Monday 8 January 2024 and early April. We will work between 8pm and 6am on weeknights only, weather permitting.
We will split work into two sections. First we will work between Wothorpe and Wansford. We'll then work near Stamford for the second phase.
During the first two weeks, there will be additional road closures on the A1 southbound between Wansford and Stibbington. This is for bridge inspections and resurfacing work. As a result, a longer diversion route will be needed during that period.Closures and diversions

Closures on Wednesday 10 and Thursday 11 January 2024
On Wednesday 10 and Thursday 11 January 2024 we will work overnight between 8pm and 6am on the A1 southbound between Wansford and junction 17 at Peterborough, weather conditions permitting.
Whilst the A1 is closed, southbound traffic will be diverted from the A1 at Wansford and directed to follow the A47, A1260 Nene Parkway and A1139 Fletton Parkway, before re-joining the A1(M) southbound at junction 17, Fletton Parkway Interchange. Please use the diversion below on 10 and 11 January.
8 January to 19 January 2024
Overnight closures of A1 southbound between Kettering Road, Wothorpe and Stibbington
Drivers will be diverted by the A43, A47, A1260/Nene Parkway and A1139/Fletton Parkway, before re-joining the A1 southbound at junction 17, Peterborough.
19 January to late March 2024
Overnight closures of A1 southbound between Kettering Road, Wothorpe and Wansford.
Drivers will be diverted via the A43 and A47, before re-joining the A1 southbound at Wansford.
Late March to early April 2024
Overnight closures of A1 southbound between the A606, Stamford and the A1 Wansford.
Drivers will be diverted via the A606, A6003 and A47, before re-joining the A1 southbound at Wansford.
